Art, craft and extinction: a tribute to disappearing knowledge

Art, craft and extinction: a tribute to disappearing knowledge

From November 6 to December 5, 2025, the academy of fine arts in Sabadell welcomes Art, craft and extinction, an exhibition by Jorge Alba that reflects on the loss of traditional crafts and the memory they hold. In this proposal, art becomes a tool to reclaim the beauty of manual work, slow processes and the cultural value of small workshops that are fading away over time.

Jobs that fade, memories that endure

Gentrification, new technologies and the lack of generational renewal threaten trades that, for years, have formed part of the urban and human fabric of our cities. Alba focuses on these spaces and people, turning them into symbols of resistance.
With sensitivity and respect, the artist portrays a universe made up of typographers, carpenters and printers who work with their hands, leaving a mark beyond their craft. It is, in short, a tribute to all those who make their work a form of art.

Art and craft, a necessary dialogue

This exhibition, hosted by the academy of fine arts in Sabadell, invites us to rethink the boundary between art and craft. Each image and each object on display remind us that artistic creation is often born from the same discipline, perseverance and passion as artisanal work.
Jorge Alba's gaze recovers the dignity of this dying world and asks us: what happens when the wisdom of the hands disappears?
