Joaquim Folguera Poetry Prize

The Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell and Papers de Versàlia are once again announcing the award, now aimed at young poets, endowed with €2,500 and with the support of the Banc Sabadell Foundation.

The Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell, a private foundation, together with the Associació Papers de Versàlia, resumes the call for the Joaquim Folguera Poetry Prize this 2026. .

The award, which was created in 1932 by the Generalitat de Catalunya, was discontinued in 1938 due to the Civil War and the dismantling of Catalan institutions. In its first stage, the award recognized great figures of Catalan literature such as Josep Carner, Joan Oliver (Pere Quart) or Clementina Arderiu. Eighty-eight years after its last edition, the competition is being reborn with the aim of promoting young contemporary talent.

This new stage has the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, as part of its commitment to promoting and boosting young artistic talent.

The award pays tribute to Joaquim Folguera i Poal (1893-1919), a prominent poet and literary critic of the Catalan literary renaissance who died prematurely at the age of 25. His footprint is present in the urban topography with a square dedicated to him in the Sant Gervasi neighborhood of Barcelona and a street in Sabadell.
