The Mistral
Josep Lluis Escudero (with the collaboration of the Institute of Photographic Studies of Catalonia)
Price: Free entry
These images are of a small, unfinished crossing, which goes from Piemanson beach to the Pharaman Lighthouse in the Camargue, mid-morning on a calm and sunny day in early January. There was enough movement for it to be winter, quite a few motorhomes, people who came to spend the day, four horsemen and some fishermen. At noon, as the wind began to blow, everyone disappeared. The Mistral grew in intensity, creating clouds of very fine sand that, a foot from the ground, flew towards the sea, crashing into the waves; in the end it exploded with all its power. The work wants to convey the fascination with the wind, reclaim nature and contrast its strength with human atavism.
