The Lied, a history of EuropeJoan Manau (piano) and Sara Bañeras (soprano)
This conference-concert offers a journey through the origin and development of the Lied as a musical genre, connecting it with the main cultural and historical events of Europe. By listening to and performing live several Lieder, the audience will be able to understand the stylistic evolution of the genre, the characteristic features of different composers and their relationship with the history of the European continent.
Lecturer and pianist: Joan Manau Valor
Born in Sabadell, Joan Manau began his piano studies at the Municipal School of Music of Sabadell, and completed them at the Municipal Superior Conservatory of Music of Barcelona under the direction of Maestro Josep F. Pagès. He expanded his training by specializing in the interpretation of Lied with the English pianist Charles Spencer.
In 1988 he obtained a position as a professor at the Terrassa Conservatory, where he continues to carry out his teaching work. He has also been musical director of the Esbart de Sabadell and has served as maestro and deputy director of the Sabadell Opera Choir.
Soprano: Sara Bañeras
Sara Bañeras began her musical studies with the Suzuki method and later graduated with a Master's degree in Opera from the Valencia Conservatory of Music.
In 2021 she performed the roles of Violetta in La Traviata and Musetta in La Bohème at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, with the company Novaria Artists.
Among his most recent commitments, he stands out as a soloist in symphonic concerts such as the "Festival of Waltzes and Dances" with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès (OSV), as well as the Festival du Nouveau with the Orchestre Symphonique Canet Roussillon Méditerranée.
