The material in Gerard's works does not come from direct drawing, but rather blocks of color left over from other production processes are reused to form a new image. Thus, the essence of these paintings lies where the pictorial act supposedly ends, the end of the action we understand as "painting". Therefore, it is at the end of the action, when everything seems to have been ignored, that a new reality, a new landscape, emerges.

This dialogue between metaphorical liquidity and physical materials constructs a new place that, as Zygmunt Bauman would say, reflects the impressionability of the liquid world without literally resorting to liquid painting.
